Well, I've done it now. Thankfully, it isn't really going to hurt us.
I managed to mess up which day I take my Internal Medicine boards. Don't know how I managed, but I put it in my Treo calender as Tuesday, and that's what we've been working with. Well, its actually Thursday, so I've got a little more time to study (not that I really want it; I'd rather have my family and my time back!). Now I've got to find someone to work for me on Thursday, but that shouldn't be too problematic. Well, I've always got a need for more humility; this should do it.
By the way, any prayers accidentally muttered for me on Tuesday (as I had requested), don't worry. God heard them, and I expect will answer them 2 days later.

Some changes
Sarah's friend Cindy Peck, visiting from Singapore.
You'll see that I've changed up the layout a little bit, and I've added a link to a movie on the right side. It's Fireproof, the new movie from the creators of Facing the Giants, one of my favorite movies of all time. It comes out next month. Despite not having seen the new movie myself yet, I guarantee it will be worth seeing. Its a small release though, so if no theaters in your area plan to carry it, call and request it.

This is under Sarah's login, but doesn't really matter. We're just continuing on with the same. Sarah and Stacey are enjoying time together, and Daniel has been an excellent baby, very playful and talkative. Its amazing, but he can still unload a good soaking spitup (on your clothes) 3 hours after his last meal. Certainly not affecting his growth though. Just a few more days to go until IM boards. Peace.

the new week
I've finished my long block of work. I have 8 days left until my Internal Medicine boards, and only one shift during that time. Of course, that just means I am free to study all the time, instead of home playing with my family. I had hopes that being in the "real world" instead of residency would be so freeing with time, but alas, not to be until the boards are over.
Daniel is great. He now sits up unsupported and only topples when he gets distracted by something (toys destined for his mouth typically). He is really a good baby now. We only have vague memories of the first 3 months when he was NOT so good, to be generous. He may have to go back to twice a week therapy though, as his neck muscles are not strong enough to support his head to be straight when he is sitting. Still, you would never notice it unless you are looking for it, so that's a blessing.
If you get an opportunity, download this past sunday's sermon from beingtransformed.org . The message is regarding conflict. Many people seem to think God is passive, that he doesn't want His children to be bold and polarizing, but to be all-accepting and tolerant of anybody who differs (no matter how contrary and offensive to the only true Gospel) , and that the God revealed in the New testament in Christ is only about peace and love. Well, that's just not Biblical. In Judges 6, God directs Gideon to pick a fight. He does it throughout the Prophets. And Christ stands up to Rome, and the Jewish leaders (healing on the Sabbath) and the money-changers (blaspheming in the Temple). We are to follow this model. I was able to do so recently at work, and I've had lots of opportunities for patients to complain about me (they haven't yet, but eventual persecution of the faithful is promised) as I take healing and prayer into their rooms. Well, God brought me to this place, and I trust him to win the battle.

the news
Sorry this is late, again. Work is tough and blocks it, and no internet access at home. Too much to say in this short time.. Daniel is great. He passed his 6m checkup with flying colors. 17# 14oz (60th%) and 28inches (90th%). Wow! My little Hoglet sure is growing. Sarah has been sick lately, but getting better. She is still a wonderful lady-wife. My friend Patrick "Gomer" Lightsey is back from Iraq, praise the Lord. My granddad Howie has been sick in the hospital, but getting better now and in rehab. I love my job. Waking up at 5:30 isn't so cool though. SALT men's ministry begins this week. My Internal Medicine boards in less than 2 weeks. Agghh!! Prayer needed. Thanks. Peace. God bless. |

Finally an update
I apologize for the tardiness. As ya'll know, I've recently started my new "calling" at The Regional Medical Center (TRMC) in Orangeburg, SC, and the hospital filter blocks the blog domain, so I am unable to post while at work (how I primarily updated this the last few months). And as my hours have been long, I haven't had the opportunity to get to a Hotspot.
Lots of stuff to update. The final vacations to the lake and to the North Georgia mountains were great. All the kids (Zak, Shelby, Daniel, and myself included) had fun times. And now, I've got a vehicle with a backseat, so I can take Daniel places as well.
The job and commuting have overall been wonderful. God has really blessed the times spent in the truck, listening to His word preached in the mornings and preparing me for the day to come. He has given me many opportunities to share bits of His truth to my patients, and I've had some sweet prayers with them. I've also lived Psalms 116:15 (I think), "Blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Its a tough job, and there are many people that I have next to nothing to offer in this world, but fortunately it doesn't end there.
My colleages are great to work with, and I've been pleasantly surprised by the hospital staff and capabilities. I love the hospitalist practice so far, meeting people at the extremes, and just taking care of them, not worrying about pleasing some insurance company or how to afford meds.
Sarah and Daniel have been doing well (we've all got over minor colds in recent weeks, but no big deal). Today Daniel is 6 months old! Half a year!! He is mostly growing outward at the moment, and finally has the rolly poly thighs we've been waiting for. He can sit up with a little assistance, and mimics noises. We're now calling him "Boogie" and "Fuzzy" (thanks to his growing blond hair), in addition to some of his previous nicknames. He is liable to be found across the room from where we place him if we blink too slow.
Sarah is fine, and the sweetest lady-wife there ever was. She gets to meet up today with her friend Peck who lives in Singapore. She recently made a blueberry pie (first attempt ever) and it was superb. We continue to enjoy watching through the "Little house on the Prairie" series.
